A MULTI-FUNCTION ORGAN
The nose is a very important organ in the human body. It has several essential functions :
DEFENCEThe nasal mucosa protects the organism against external aggressions by filtering them out.
SENSE OF SMELLThe presence of millions of olfactory receptors in the nasal cavities enables us to distinguish thousands of different odours.
CONDITIONINGThe nose conditions the air that we breath, by humidifying, warming and purifying it before it reaches the lower airways.
RESONANCE BOXThe sound of the voice is dependant on the resonance of the nasal cavities. When the nose is blocked, the sound of the voice changes, referred to as nasal speech.

The nose has sensory, respiratory, protective, and expressive roles, it therefore merits our close attention and particular precautionsto keep it in good working order. It is one of the many defensive bastions of the body, but certainly the most exposed. One of the most effective arms against external agressions is the nasal mucosa. However, when the latter is overloaded, its efficacy decreases.
